Houston Imaging Sciences Symposium (October 2nd-3rd, 2017)
Hurricane Harvey Update:
Houston roads and businesses have mostly recovered from the impacts of hurricane Harvey, except for a few pockets. The organizing committee had planned this meeting to be right after SEG’s annual meeting (www.seg.org) to make it easier for attendees who may want to come to both events. Since SEG is planning to hold their annual meeting as scheduled, we will also be holding the symposium as scheduled. Majority of the speakers are able to attend as planned, and we have a great new venue, so we expect no compromise in quality or convenience!
The new venue for the symposium will be be the Shell Auditorium, Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business, Rice University. We wish to thank Jones School of Business for their generosity providing their venue for this event.
Hoping to see many of you there in two weeks!!
Details:
SIAM TX-LA Section in cooperation with SIAM Imaging Sciences Activity group will be hosting a two-day symposium to bring together experts and practitioners of imaging sciences in various industry, including but not limited to oil and medical industries.
- Focus on the mathematical and numerical aspects of imaging. At the same time, the focus will also be on how to apply the mathematics to solve industry problems of today.
- Look at what the future holds for imaging, find intersection between imaging and all the fantastic improvements in machine learning, reduced order models, compressive sensing, etc.
- Four sections:
- Tomographic Imaging: Lead by Dr. Eric Miller, Tufts University
- Reflection Imaging: Lead by Dr. Bill Symes, Rice University
- Image Processing: Lead by Dr. David Fuentes, M.D. Anderson
- Future of Imaging: Lead by Dr. Maarten DeHoop, Rice University
Plenary Speakers:
- Patrick La Riviere, University of Chicago (Abstract: Towards Color Computed Tomography: Algorithmic Challenges and Opportunities in Spectral CT)
- Joe Dellinger, BP (Abstract: The story of Wolfspar®, BP’s low-frequency marine seismic source; or, “Sometimes the ‘brute force’ approach to a problem can work”!)
- Gunther Uhlmann, IAS, HKUST & University of Washington (Abstract: Travel Time Tomography)
